It Is Time To Act! Extraordinary Times Demand Extraordinary Action!

The ANC Policy Conference has come and gone without any major announcements or policy shifts that would significantly improve the lives of South Africa’s scandal weary citizens.

The ruling party appeared to focus much of its time and attention on internal matters. Party members grappled with issues of corruption, State Capture and factionalism within the party with the primary focus being “party renewal” in a bid to avert disaster at the polls in 2019.

However, the Gupta email leaks paint a grim picture. Billions of taxpayer money has been siphoned into Gupta owned businesses without any benefit to South Africa’s economy.

State Owned Enterprises like Eskom, SAA, SABC, PRASA and Petronet are all haemorrhaging billions as a result of endemic corruption, gross incompetence and maladministration.

The Justice Department is also paralysed by corruption. The NPA, HAWKS and SAPS are in disarray with several corruption investigations underway to determine leadership fitness.

The full extent of government corruption is unknown. But what we do know is frightening enough. Corruption, fraud, racketeering and the brazen theft of public funds are so widespread that barely a week passes without a new story emerging that exposes public sector corruption.

More ominously, a burglary and theft of computers at the Chief Justice office was followed by more recent break-ins at the offices of the HAWKS and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

In addition, South Africa is slowly losing its sovereignty. Besides Gupta control of many state enterprises, a growing list of foreign organisations are influencing social policy in the country.

SA policy on prostitution, parental rights and authority, sex-education in schools and hate crimes are all determined by either the United Nations or wealthy liberal foreign groups.

Most honest citizens must come to this realisation; the country is in deep trouble and is squandering its massive potential as long as the corrupt and the dishonest have carte blanche.

The Christian Church played a crucial role in exposing and eventually toppling the apartheid regime. However, the Church’s response to the current wicked system is anemic.

The Body of Christ must commit to pray fervently for the nation. We must pray, “It is time for You to act O Lord, for they have regarded Your law as void” Ps 119:126.

The country desperately needs an honest and capable government. The ANC has entrenched the ideology of entitlement in the public sector with devastating results for the economy.

South Africa has huge potential. But it needs servant leaders to fully realise this potential. Tragically, achieving public office in the ANC does not always translate into serving the people of South Africa. It is increasingly viewed as access to public funds for the purpose of self-enrichment.

The Christian Church must take the lead in the spiritual and moral transformation of South Africa. The unrestrained looting of the treasury is a manifestation of a nation without moral direction.

The Scriptures declare, “Righteousness exalts a nation” Prov 14:34. Extraordinary times demand extraordinary action. It’s time Christian citizens acknowledge & fulfill its Biblical mandate for SA.
