It’s Time For Heart Surgery
– by Rainer Boshoff
On 3 December 1967, Dr Chris Barnard performed the world’s first human to human heart transplant at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town. This achievement saved one life on that day. Since then, thousands of heart transplants were performed worldwide and, according to the 2015 statistics, 7023 procedures are now done annually. The hard work and dedication of this one doctor had an impact of mammoth proportions in the medical field and the potential to save hundreds of thousands of lives. During my journey with the Men of Honour program and having the privilege to minister to young men, I have encountered many situations where the lives of families were destroyed due to the absence of a father or father figure, but also because of the calloused heart of the father who was present.
David prayed to God in Psalm 51:10 to create a pure heart and to renew a steadfast spirit within him. David needed a ‘heart transplant’ to save him from the result of his own sinful actions. He called out to the ‘surgeon of all surgeons’ – Our Heavenly Father – to give him a loyal, faithful, unwavering heart. In Ezekiel 36:26 God promises that he will remove the heart of stone and replace it with the heart of flesh. A heart of stone or an impure heart can destroy us and our families. As such, I want to encourage you to turn your eyes to Jesus and ask Him to do a ‘heart transplant’ so that you can experience the abundance of what God wants to give you in this life.
