Access Denied

– by Rainer Boshoff

Because of the financial institution that I bank with, I have access to a waiting lounge at the airport. There I can sit and work with soft background music, good coffee, and some snacks that are available. The cost for this is absorbed by the financial institution and offered to their clients on a complementary basis. One day when I was travelling, I forgot my bankcard at home. I went to the lounge and asked if I could access because I am a client. The answer was “access denied”. I had to have the card with me. This made me think of the Gospel and what Jesus had done for us on the Cross. He paid the price so that we can have access to eternal life and enjoy everything that entails.

When we accept Him as our Lord and Saviour, we automatically receive the ‘card’ that will grant us access to eternal life. However, Matthew 7:21 reads: “Not everyone that say unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that do the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Life is all but easy. We are being faced with a plethora of challenges and temptations on this journey we call life. But Jesus paid for this benefit of eternal life that we can enjoy, and sent us the Holy Spirit to be our helper in the endeavour to be Holy, as God is Holy (1 Peter 1:15 and 16). I pray for myself and for you, to live a life worthy of the gift we received through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
