“Be glad about this, even though it may now be necessary for you to be sad for a while because of the many kinds of trials you suffer. Their purpose is to prove that your faith is genuine. Even gold, which can be destroyed, is tested by fire; and so your faith, which is much more precious than gold, must also be tested, so that it may endure. Then you will receive praise and glory and honour on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed.” – 1 Peter 1:6-7, GNT
Many in the body of Christ profess faith in God’s Word, but in reality it’s not genuine faith or Biblical faith, but rather head knowledge or presumption. I have seen believers through the years bad mouth the teaching of faith and speak evil of the men and women of God who teach faith, simply because when their so-called ‘faith’ was tested it proved that it was not genuine. Instead of examining as to why their faith failed and rectify the situation, they run off blaming the teaching and the teachers of faith.
Tried and tested
It is in the time of testing that our faith is examined to see if it is genuine or not. When the pressure is on, you will quickly find out what you really believe.
All learning institutions – as part of the educational process – test their students to gauge their level of knowledge on the subjects that they have been taught. All manufacturers put their products through severe testing before they market them and release them to the public.
So it is with our faith. Just like gold is tested and purified by fire, even so our faith in God is also tested and purified through various trials so that it can bring honour and glory to God.
So examine yourself
How do you respond when the pressure is on? Do you give way to pressure or is your faith genuine and able to stand under fire? Do you give in to your flesh or are you able to stand firm on God’s Word?
