Wherever you are and whoever you are, I need your help to change the world! Let’s start with TGIF, a crazy acronym known as, Thank God It’s Friday, and yes, we should thank God for Friday but is Friday more important to God than a Monday or Tuesday? Maybe you believe in the narrative of being overjoyed on a Friday and then dealing with the Sunday night blues knowing it’s Monday the next day?

Most of the world believes this, but I have my own story. I’ve changed my acronym from TGIF to TGIM, Thank God it’s Monday. Sounds quite foreign, doesn’t it? I’ve been an advocate of TGIM for many years, when God spoke to me clearly and revealed His word. Why was I waiting for weekends and holidays? My view was that the week was tough, hard and gruelling and weekends pleasurable and holidays were incredible. In fact, in the nineties there was a radio show that made such a big deal about Fridays I used to join them in the Friday celebration with gusto repeating the TGIF meme the whole day.

I found out that the meaning and implications of TGIF is a real-world view and undermines the meta narrative of the Bible. I would like you to consider that work is a blessing from God and one of the most important Kingdom mandates from Genesis 2. In Genesis, God worked and commands humanity to work. Work is good, God showed us the way from the beginning. So then why is the world the declaring TGIF and why are so many Christians TGIF advocates? One of the factors is that people have lost an understanding that they are a unique creation, fashioned by God with unique talents and gifts. In other words, the people of God have not realized the value of their purpose in this world and their purpose in God’s plan.

The analogy of the body is such an apt example of how we have been created to be part of a body, His body. The scripture from 1 Corinthians 12:18 says that God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as He wanted them to be. Discovering your purpose and delighting in it, is so fundamental for your health and wellness. It is such a powerful internal driver that when you have to say “no” to the junk food, or say “yes” to getting out of the warm bed and go an exercise on a cold Winter’s morning, knowing that you and your unique body is what God wants to use to glorify himself, is truly motivating.

Motivation comes from the root Latin word “Movere” which literally means to move with a cause. To stay motivated, you need a cause and then move with it. The medical research tells us that 80 to 95 percent of people who lose weight will regain that weight within 5 years and often put more kilos on in the long run. Purpose is one of the foundational pillars to staying motivated with your healthy habits and lifestyle.
