One of the most intriguing parables Jesus ever told was about the “Good Samaritan”. This parable was in response to a question asked by a lawyer who was trying to trap Jesus. The question was, “And who is my neighbour?” – Luke 10:29. Jesus then tells the story of a man who is attacked by thieves and left destitute and injured. This man was passed by two people who should have helped him. The third man, a Samaritan who was considered an outcast, stopped and helped this man. The gravity of this question is seen in Romans 13:9-10:
“For the commandments say, ‘You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.’ These—and other such commandments—are summed up in this one commandment: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ Love does no wrong to others, so love fulfils the requirements of God’s law.” The greatest need today in people’s lives is peace and hope; both of which are found in the person of Jesus Christ. Our “neighbour” is the anyone we come across who is in need. Share Jesus with them!
