“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.”-  John 15:4

In difficult times like these with global uncertainty and a nation-wide lockdown, I like to pray and write down all the things that I am so grateful for. Firstly, I like to remember the person who led me to the Lord. The counsellor who, so carefully, explained the Gospel to me one afternoon in 1978. I had just responded to an altar call after watching an outreach movie called A Thief in the Night. This counsellor’s gentle and welcome approach and guidance in leading me in a prayer of repentance changed my life forever. I then think of the many pastors, teachers, and authors whose books and sermons have taught and impacted me for this life and eternity.

I am so grateful
I am so grateful that I was baptised and introduced to the Holy Spirit who came to reside in me. I thank the Holy Spirit for empowering me with boldness so that I may share my faith with others. I thank the Lord for the opportunity of studying His Word through Seminary and Bible School, and for giving me the opportunity to bear fruit through the ministry of JOY! Magazine, JUIG! Tydskrif, and our various digital platforms.

What are you grateful for?
Spend some time pondering what it is that you are grateful for, and how the Lord has blessed you. Yes, times may be difficult at the moment, but as Christians we have hope and faith in what God is doing. Romans 8:28 reminds us that all things work for the good of those who love Him. I would love to hear the things that you are grateful for. Please reach out and share these – you can send your messages to editor@joymag.co.za. I would love to share these messages of hope in the magazine to encourage our readers.

Ask God to use you
I thank the Lord for teaching me and helping me to abide in Him. I encourage every one of you to reach out to God and to ask Him to use you as we approach ‘revival times.’ Every one of us has a ministry within, some are extremely active whilst others are waiting to be released. Study to find yourself approved (2 Tim 2:15) and abide in the Lord – He will direct you and you will bear much fruit.
