One of the most widely asked questions today is, “What is my purpose in life?”. This question was settled right from the beginning in the ministry of Jesus, just as it is settled from the foundation of the earth for us. The answer is found in Jesus’ first commandment. “Then Jesus said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.’” – Mark 1:17. First and foremost, we are to follow Christ.
Following Christ requires us to get to know Christ, the One whom we are following. Our purpose comes out of our “following” Christ and is found in our “following” Christ. Following Christ entails intimacy with Him in prayer, Bible reading, and worship. Where He leads we go and do. In this Scripture we are told that in “following” Christ we will become fishers of men. Everything that Christ leads us into will be for the purpose of becoming fishers of men. This is further evidenced by Jesus’ last command, “Go and preach the Word and go and make disciples” (in Mark 16:15-20 and Matthew 28:18-20). In conclusion: Follow Christ and become fishers of men.
