Marketplace Ministry Women In The Marketplace

– by Pearl Kupe

In this month’s column we focus on women in the marketplace. There are so many myths and stereotypes about women’s ability to successfully operate in the marketplace. Those negative myths and stereotypes are misleading and unbiblical and need to be debunked! It is important that we understand the following:

1) The mandate given to us to have dominion over all things, inclusive of the business/economic gate was given to both the man and the woman. In Genesis 5:2 it says, “Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created”. It is of great importance for us to understand that God created both male and female and blessed them both!

2) The mandate given by Jesus to us to “occupy and do business until He comes”, in Luke 19:13 was not just given to men, but to women as well!

3) Women carry a natural aptitude, grace, and gift for business. The same grace that enables a woman to take a small amount of money and stretch it out to feed a whole family, is the same grace that makes her a natural business person. Women carry a redemptive grace for multiplying what looks small.

4) Proverbs 31 does not only take note of the special DNA in a woman to multi-task, it also refers to her ability to do business and trade. This is emphasised in verses 31:16, 18 & 21 , in particular.

I want to encourage all women out there to understand that part of being a “virtuous woman” means connecting to your redemptive grace to do business. We are honoured to be able to present the Global Forum of Women Entrepreneurs to you to use as a network that will connect you at a deeper level to that redemptive grace to do business the Kingdom way.
