Biblical Requirements For Healing – Part 2
– by Siva Moodley
The heart of God is to see you healed. We learnt previously that God is not the source of sickness (Acts 10:38). He is good all the time. Satan is always the source of every sickness and disease. Satan is the source of evil while God is the source of all good.
But what about the Old Testament?
God is as willing as He has always been to heal His people. Healing is a Covenant right. We read sometimes how people in the Old Testament were punished, and sickness came upon the wicked. It might even seem at times that God was the source of sickness when we read that God put sickness on them. God is the same “yesterday, today, and tomorrow” – Hebrews 13:8. He does not change. So how did God put sickness on the wicked if He is not the source of sickness? Firstly, it was the sin of the wicked that enabled it. Secondly, God stepped aside and allowed oppressive demons to attack the wicked with sickness and disease. This is what He meant in the OT when He said He will punish the wicked with sickness and disease.
Sin opens the door to sickness
Here are two examples of this: In the story of Job, satan tells God, that if He puts sickness and disease on Job, then Job will curse Him. God disagrees, and to prove His point, God puts sickness and disease on Job by allowing satan to do it, on condition that Job is not killed (Job 2:4-7). In Numbers 21:4-9, the wicked are bitten by snakes. The poison makes them sick and kills them. God in His compassion says to Moses to make a Cross with a bronze serpent on it. All those looking at the Cross would be healed. The bronze serpent signifies the defeat of satan and sickness on the Cross, while the Cross points to the finished work of Calvary. We take note from these examples that sin is an open door that enables sickness and disease. “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” – Romans 5:12.
In the garden of Eden, with the fall of man both sin and sickness (death by sin) entered the world. Romans 5:12 tells us that the reason sickness was passed on to generations was because “all have sinned”. Sin therefore is one of the open doors that causes sickness to come. Scripture tells us about the direct relationship between sin and sickness: “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.” – James 5:16. “Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases.” – Psalm 103:3.
Forgiveness precedes healing
The Bible also tells us that envy, jealousy, and wrath dry up the bones (Proverbs 14:30). After getting healed, Jesus told a man to sin no more lest a more aggressive sickness come upon him (John 5:14). To a crippled man seeking healing, Jesus forgave his sin, to enable his healing (Mark 2:5). Anyone seeking healing must first deal with the sin issue before asking God to heal them. Sometimes people bargain with God declaring that they will change if God heals them first. This does not work.
Delayed healing for no repentance
I will never forget visiting a lady who was bedridden for over 6 months. God told me not to pray for her and declared, “She is full of bitterness, I will not heal her”. I told this precious saint what the Lord had told me. She testified to this and after some encouragement, sought the Lord’s forgiveness. To my amazement, she instantly jumped out of bed, completely healed. My response was, “Lord – I did not pray for her. How did she get healed?”. The Lord replied that the anointed prayers of many were pending but could not be answered because of her unforgiveness. The moment she repented, the barrier was removed and God instantly answered those prayers. As you will repent before God now, expect your healing to manifest as a result of answered prayer.
