The Heart Is Full Of . . .
– by Michelle Du Toit
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”– Proverbs 4:23
I have always been so aware that the words that come out of your mouth can do harm, or do good. “For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of,” Jesus warned in Matthew 12:34. Paul encourages us, “Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” – Colossians 4:5-6. Jesus also said: “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” – Luke 6:45. My understanding is: what you put into your heart is more important than anything else.
If I fill my heart with Scripture, it will flow from my life into the lives of others. The Word of God should become the treasure I store in my heart, for “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matt 6:21. This is why I started my blog Heart Treasure, to find a place to share the treasures of my heart with others. Each written treasure comes from my own personal walk with God and my times in His Word. With over two hundred blog posts available it really has become a treasure. I use these in the mentoring, counselling, and teaching of others, since one cannot teach others the way to go if you have not gone that way yourself. Like Job says in Job 23:12 “I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.”
