Africa Melane talks to Mmatsatsi Ramawela, the CEO of Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA), about the slight growth and recovery of the industry.

Despite the tough operating environment, the travel and tourism industry experienced slightly better than normal business performance in the last quarter of 2016.

Ramatsatsi says that the Cape Town tourism sector has grown a bit, given the number of people that have visited the province in the past months.

He says that the index shows that the trend has been jumping up and down, not seeing the kind of expected results in terms of numbers of people visiting the country.

Ramatsatsi says this could partly be due to the recent visa regulations that caused a massive outcry in the country and abroad.
