Early morning, 14 August, the unthinkable happened in Sierra Leone when one whole side of the mountain, Sugar Loaf Mountain, shifted and engulfed the entire community of Regent, a suburb of Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone. Streams of water, mud and rock destroyed everything in its path.
More than 1 000 people died and hundreds are still missing. More than 3 000 people have lost their homes and all their possessions.
The Bible Society in Sierra Leone was immediately galvanised into action and joined hands with other organisations to reach out to these people. Some R1,2 million is needed to provide food, mattresses and bedding, water and Bibles to thousands of people who have lost everything.
The Bible Society of South Africa and other Bible Societies in the world would like to join hands with our colleagues in Sierra Leone. Your contribution can help us do just that!
For every R100 received, one person gets a meal and a Bible.
