On my home from a much needed walk on the beach over the holiday, I was thinking about all the things I would like to have happen in 2019.
As always, I invite Jesus to walk along with me and while my mind was whirring through all these thoughts, He asked me why I don’t ask him for those things. I was a little bit taken aback, thinking that I have asked. I realized I haven’t.
I said, ‘Lord, no one knows the desires of my heart better than you. I don’t feel the need to ask, because you already know.’
It was quiet for a little while and then God illustrated what he was trying to teach me through the following:
Whenever I go grocery shopping there are always beggars who ask me for food. I don’t give money as a rule unless prompted to do so by Holy Spirit, but I never refuse them food. I began to see what God was saying. I might know that the beggars want or need something but I will give it when they ask.
God knows what we want and what we need and he can provide it anytime, but we first need to acknowledge our want or need for it. If we don’t ask and God provides, we might miss an opportunity or blessing because we ourselves are unaware that what we are getting is what we asked for in our hearts.
So it is with your prayers. Ask and you will receive… Every persistent person will get what he asks for.
Ask God for what you want.
