His Cross Works
– by Robbie Cairncross
Is it possible for all this to happen at once? Firstly, my mom died in Feb 2015, then in August my dad. I performed both funerals. Then, my (then) wife of 21 years had an affair. All after 25 years in full time ministry. I was totally traumatised. Everything went black, as if the world had ended. My counsel of many suggested I go on holiday. I decided to go to Israel, to Calvary, to the Tomb, to where our Saviour was crucified and resurrected for us. At Calvary, the place of His Love, I sat for days. I gave Him my hurts, pains, disappointments, and rejections – crucified with Him, gone forever. The Dead Sea is where nothing lives.
The lowest place on earth, my lowest place. Empty. A little love bug (ladybird) sat on my hand, and suddenly I was aware that nothing could separate us from His Love (Romans 8:35). I spent 3 days at the Garden Tomb. It was empty. He has risen. I felt myself being resurrected into His goodness, mercy, grace, peace, and love. The vision to take His love and healing everywhere returned. After the Upper Room, I felt filled with His Holy Spirit and power. Finally, at the Pool of Siloam, I was prayed for by a pastor from Jerusalem. Little did I know that Siloam means “sent”. Whom He sets free is free indeed. His final sacrifice on the Cross is still active & able for us to enjoy today. His new and living way of good things, through the Cross of life (Heb 10:19-21). “The Cross is foolishness to those whom are perishing, but to him whom is saved. It is the power of God.” – 1 Cor 1:18.
