Man’s original purpose: God’s first instruction to the masterpiece of creation, man, is found in Genesis chapter one. The instruction contained Adam’s purpose on earth. “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” – Genesis 1:28. There are many aspects to this verse, and we will only look at the first part.
We see that this instruction is actually a blessing. God’s instructions are always to give us a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11), will work out for our good (Romans 8:28) and is all part of God’s Kingdom masterplan. The instruction; “Be fruitful and multiply” – Adam was told to reproduce himself, which was in fact reproducing God’s image and likeness in others. The instruction was to grow God’s family on earth. The instruction and purpose has not changed, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” – Matthew 28:19. God’s instruction and purpose remains to enlarge His family on earth and ultimately in heaven.
